Koora-Middi Program

90-minute bush walk and talk at Point Walter Reserve, Bicton (allow 2 hours) · Meet at the Point Walter Sandbar, Honour Avenue, Bicton

About This Program

Koora means "In the beginning"Middi means "the medium."

This flagship excursion takes students on a living journey through Nyoongar history along the Swan River — one of Australia's most significant Aboriginal Dreaming Trails. Programs are tailored for different age groups, and teacher consultation on content is always welcome.

A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony is available by request.

What Students Will Experience

  • The deep connection of the Wadjuk People to the Swan River and the Dreaming Trail they have cared for across generations
  • Traditional place names, plants, birds and animals of the local area in Nyoongar language

About Incursions

Our presenter travels to your school, office or facility and brings the great outdoors inside. If your location has bushland or plants on site, we can take a guided walk on your grounds to discover ancient foods and medicines used by the First Australians.

Up to 60 students per session. Large schools may require a multi-day booking.

What's Included in Every Session

  • Introduction to local Nyoongar history — the Wadjuk area, tribal regions and language groups across Australia
  • The presenter's own personal family connection to Country
  • Artefact presentation — kangaroo skin cloak and bag, fire-lighting sticks, Yandi dish, boomerangs, bush seeds and plant samples
  • Local plants used for traditional food and medicine
  • Bush string making demonstration — students can take home their handmade piece as a keepsake
  • Dreamtime story available on request

Early Learning & Daycare: We offer flexible formats within a 1-hour total — choose from 2 x 30-minute, 3 x 20-minute or 4 x 15-minute sessions to suit your children's attention span. Children can be photographed wearing the kangaroo or possum skin, holding artefacts or with their freshly made bush string keepsake.
